When you load up your Itunes and hit shuffle, what comes up? It could be good, it could be bad or anywhere in between. Shuffle Sunday is a look at what happens when I load up my library and hit play. Hopefully it will introduce you to a new artist you like, remind you of an old favorite or maybe just give you a good laugh! So without further ado, let’s see what Shuffle has in store this week…..
Placebo “Every You Every Me”
How is it that Placebo has managed to stay on the fringes for so long? These guys release solid albums every time, and yet, they’ve never seemed to really break through. I bough Black Market Music back when it came out and it blew my mind. They always reminded me of what the Smashing Pumpkins could’ve done, or I guess more to the point, what the Silversun Pickups did do. Does that make sense or did I just stumble into music black hole???
Goo Goo Dolls “Dizzy”
It’s so hard for me to imagine that these guys were almost a punk band at one point. This song is from the album where they initially started to fancy up their image and play poppy radio hits, but you can still hear elements of their early sound on this track. Although I do enjoy the singles that they’ve put out in recent years, it’s really strange to go back and listen to when they used electronic guitars with distortion. They’ve changed their sound a ton. It’s almost as drastic as A.F.I., just, you know, not as bad.
Kings of Leon “Manhattan”
Man, how hard must it be to be the singer for Kings of Leon? Dude was releasing pretty solid music for years, then all of a sudden they were the biggest band in the world. What a mindfuck that would be! Then, on their last tour, the dude got all fucked up on stage and the band cancelled the rest of the tour. Seeing as the band are all related to each other, it’s not like he could just disappear and deal with his shit. It’s not like fans where you can just go away. He probably had to see em on Labor day and family get togethers and shit. Raw deal. Hopefully everything is going well with these guys now, cause they write some pretty good songs.
Los Huracanes Del Norte “Sin Medida”
Oh man, talk about coming out of left field! See, this is why Shuffle Sunday is awesome!!! I don’t even know where I got this album, but I’ve always loved this kind of music. My girlfriends family lives next to a hispanic family, and on holidays they blare songs like this and party in the backyard. You can always tell how much they have had to drink cause they start doing the “AYYYEE YIEEEE” call a bunch. It’s awesome. I wish I could do that too. I have no clue what they are saying in this song, but surely its something awesome!!!
Bon Iver “Holocene”
Am I the only person that actually wonders what Bon Iver’s singer actually sounds like in real life? I mean, every single song is just saturated with effects and layers that he’s just never sounded like a human to me. It’s like there’s 30 of him and they all speak some different language. Oh chill out hipsters, I’m not raggin on Bon Iver, I’m just making an observation that that dude is either a studio wizard, or just has a really weird fucking voice. I’ll bet he sounds like a Muppet in real life. Awesome.
WINNER OF THE WEEK: Honestly, my favorite song this week was the Los Huracanes Del Norte track. Who want’s to translate for me????
TURKEY OF THE WEEK: It’s by no means a bad song, but the Goo Goo Dolls track was my least favorite this week.
